SONY is not well known as a manufacturer of GPS units. But in the early days Sony claimed for this market too. The Sony Pyxis IPS-360 was produced since 1991. It is a very basic navigational unit. Initialization is an automated feature, there is no special knowledge necessary to use the IPS-360. The user may choose five modes of operation with associated buttons. The small display features even a track plotter. Sony had a special approach with their GPS receivers. There is a antenna / receiver unit and a display unit. They were connected by a data cable. With a supplied longer cable the antenna unit could be placed on the car or on the top of a boat.

The Sony IPS-360 has a problem with aging electrolytic capacitors. This causes the display to remain blank. To fix this problem put new capacitors on this printed circuit board.
